Residency

Rex's love of birds is manifest in 874 paintings depicting every species in North America, and his desire to share the beauty of the natural world is evident in 100 sets of books he individually hand-painted, bound, and published on his 116-acre woodland property near Kent, Connecticut.

The best way to keep Rex in our hearts and minds is to invite a new generation of artists, scientists, and naturalists to create new works in the place that inspired Rex.

The Rex Brasher Association is working to establish an ecology-based programming where artists, scientists, and naturalists of all ages observe and document the world around them.

Though we have not yet established a formal residency program, we have taken the first steps to collaborate with artists inspired by Rex's story.

In 2023, Christopher Hoffman composed and performed an original piece at the Rex Brasher symposium. Subsequently, he composed and published an album inspired by his time on Rex's property.

In 2023, Ben Manley composed and performed an original work derived from bird sounds recorded on Rex's property

In 2024, Emma Hoffman illustrated, wrote, and published a book contemplating her personal connections to the natural world.

We need your help to develop educational programming for students and a pioneering residency program.
